Pokemon HeartGold Pokemon SoulSilver
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are remakes of the 1999 Gameboy Color games, Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver. Further aspects were added to these games with the release of Pokemon Crystal for the Gameboy Color in 2000. All these games take place in the Johto region, and allow access to the Kanto region.
Even though Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are new games, they follow off the same basics of Pokemon Gold and Silver. However, there are a variety of features added to these remakes. Firstly, all the mechanics are set to 4th Generation standards. Second, these games allow you to have the 1st Pokemon in your party follow your trainer. This gives you a more personalized experience. Also, it includes the Suicune storyline that was featured in Pokemon Crystal. In addition, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver take much advantage of the Nintendo DS/Nintendo DSi's Touch Screen, for the games' menu, set items, and the Running Shoes are displayed on the Touch Screen.
New areas can be found in Johto as well, such as the brand new Safari Zone. Furthermore, non-Johto Pokemon are found in it, including Kyogre in HeartGold, Groudon in SoulSilver, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina.
Between HeartGold and SoulSilver, almost all the currently available Pokemon are obtainable, barring most of the Legendaries and Starters introduced in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.
The new PokeWalker is a new peripheral packaged with these games that allows you to transfer a Pokemon to it, and train it as you walk in real life. The Pokemon in the PokeWalker levels up by 1 each time you transfer it to the device. You are also capable of capturing Pokemon exclusive to that route on the PokeWalker, and finding items that are exclusive to that route as well.
The games have also introduced the Pokeathlon, which has you partake in mini-games using three of your Pokemon at once.
